WHAT IS SOUND THERAPY?
Sound therapy, also known as vibrational therapy or sound healing, uses specific sounds and vibrations to restore harmony to both your mind and body. The healing effects of sound are multifaceted and can affect us on a cellular level. Studies have shown that the vibrations of sound therapy help to calm the nervous system, alleviate anxiety, and promote a sense of inner calm. As the mind relaxes, so does the body, releasing tension in muscles and tissues. Sound therapy also has the capacity to enhance mental clarity and focus.
Although there are many different types of sound healing, I mostly work with crystal singing bowls and Tibetan bowls. These instruments vibrate at different frequencies which match frequencies in the body. The Tibetan bowls have a deep earthy sound, and the crystal singing bowls are more ethereal sounding. I also offer sound massage, when I put the bowls directly on the body. The vibrations travel deep into the tissue and soothe aches and pain.
You don’t have to have a concern such as anxiety or stress to come for a treatment, although sound healing can help with these. It can be used as a self-care practice, something to energise you, or an opportunity to unwind and relax from daily life.
There are some contraindications for sound therapy such as when you’re in the first trimester of pregnancy. Please speak with me before you book if you are concerned.
What to expect in a session
Before I begin the sound therapy, I will talk with you about what is going on in your life, and you can share as much or as little as you like. I will also ask if you would like a sound massage during the treatment, this is when I put the bowls directly on the body. Then you will be asked to lie down fully clothed on a healing couch and I will play the bowls around you. This will be followed by a silent resting period to allow the sound to integrate. A lot of the impact of sound healing happens after the session itself.
Everyone’s experience will be different, however, there are often common things people experience including feeling really relaxed and well rested, and sometimes seeing shapes or colours. No two sound healing sessions are ever the same. You don’t have to listen or pay attention during the treatment as the vibrations travel through your body rather than just through your ears. I always recommend taking it easy and paying attention to what comes up in the 24 hours after a session.
Sessions are normally 60 minutes; and cost £50. I also see a certain number of clients at reduced rates, please contact me for details. Gift vouchers are also available for sound therapy treatments.
Please be aware that sound therapy is not an alternative to conventional medicine and therefore, you should always consult your doctor or other healthcare professional for any physical or psychological condition that you may have. I do not diagnose or interfere with prescribed medication.
If you are unable to make your appointment, please give as much notice as possible. Cancellations on the day may still be charged.
